Synopsis:
No french review yet:
Midnight, 14 August 1947 marked the dawn of Independence for India, the birth of Pakistan and the end of the British Raj the last days of the greatest empire in history. The seemingly impossible task of bringing about Independence falls on the shoulders of a remarkable man, Lord Louis Mountbatten. Faced with a group of hugely influential and charismatic men, Pandit Nehru, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi he has to formulate a plan for Partition agreeable to all parties. In less than a year Mountbatten achieves the impossible and a plan to form Partition is agreed. The celebrations would prove to be short lived however, when the realities of Partition dawn and Gandhi is assassinated, spreading shock waves around the world and a new wave of turmoil and bloodshed sweeping the subcontinent. Eventually, the time comes for the last Viceroy to leave India, having gained the love and respect of the nation he had served. Through the force of his remarkable personality he has dictated the course of history, leaving a legacy to the people of India and Pakistan that continues to this day.
