George Blake (George Formby) is a steward at the Senior Service Club in Porthampton but wants to join the Royal Navy. He has been rejected two or three times because he has a slightly dodgy heart. During an air raid he is mistaken for a sailor after he dons the clothes of a friend who has borrowed his to go to a lock-in at a local pub. As George tried to find his friend, he is spotted by military police who think he is Awol and escort him back to the barracks. There he impresses his new friends with his singing and ukulele playing. He is recruited to play at the Spick and Span troop concert in London. Look out for a guest appearance by Charles Hawtrey as a BBC worker. On the train home George is mistaken for a member of a German spy ring and has to battle to prove his identity, win the heart of a Wren and save a secret naval ship from being destroyed by the Germans.
