'Dulski Ladies' is at the same time a filmed version of Gabriela Zapolska's early XX century play (1907), a variation based on the story, and its continuation. School children in Poland have the play on their to-read literary assignments and the term that derived from the title family name, dulszczyzna, was quickly adopted to the everyday language - it means life in hypocrisy and keeping the skeletons deeply buried in the closet. It is the early 90ties when Melania, a granddaughter of Mrs. Dulska, is visited by Rainer Dulsky, professor of psychiatry from Switzerland. They met at the Locarno Film Festival where Melania, a film director, was presenting her work. Rainer, expert in Jung, subconsciousness and dreams, looked for her there intrigued by the similarity of their last names. When it turned out that Rainer and Melania have identical dreams about the same house, Rainer decides to come to Poland to investigate the mysterious coincidences and Melania wants to make a film about it. As a child she often witnessed her mother's accusations addressed toward her grandmother, Mrs. Dulska, that 'the death of the maid Hanka was her (grandmother's) fault and that the old Dulska has blood on her hands'. Melania is convinced that these accusations are true. Making the film is supposed to free her from the trauma of these memories. She, unlike her mother and grandmother, believes in transparency and freeing the skeletons from the closet. Is the modern time Dulska really different from the other Dulski women? From director, Filip Bajon: 'Dulski Ladies' is a universal story that does not age with time. It makes the viewers aware that they do not live only here and now but also hundred years ago because all that happened then influences them and their lives now. People are rooted in their past more than they think they are.'
