Synopsis:

1912. Alors qu'il prepare l'union de sa fille, Catherine, avec le jeune Watherstone, Arthur Winslow est tout a coup accapare par un autre probleme. Son plus jeune fils, Ronnie, vient d'etre renvoye de l'ecole navale d'Osbourne sous le coup d'une accusion de vol. Mais le jeune garcon est formel. Il n'a pas derobe le mandat postal de cinq shillings. Des lors, Arthur va consacrer toute ses forces a lever les charges qui pesent sur son fils. Ce qui signifie qu'il va devoir lutter contre l'Amiraute et la Couronne qui, selon la loi, ne peuvent pas se tromper.
