Synopsis:

L'Angleterre en 1923. A la suite de la mort de son mari, Lady Franklin a souffert d'une dépression nerveuse et a fait un long séjour en clinique. Aujourd'hui, elle peut sortir, étant à peu près guérie. Agée d'une trentaine d'années, elle doit maintenant reprendre contact avec le monde. Elle se sent isolée et très vulnérable. Au cours des semaines suivantes, une relation amicale se crée entre elle et Leadbetter, propriétaire d'une entreprise de louage de voitures.
