Synopsis:

En 1925, una joven que abandona la estricta comunidad "amish" llega a Nueva York para convertirse en bailarina. Prueba suerte en el "Minsky's", un teatro de variedades del Lower East Side cuyo dueño sufre las presiones de la censura. Chick, uno de los cómicos del local, se enamora de la muchacha. Su veterano colega Raymond, que es un mujeriego, pretende utilizar a la chica para dejar en ridículo al censor y, al mismo tiempo, intenta seducirla.
