Lotte Anker - Free improvisations is a portrait of the Danish saxophonist Lotte Anker and her improvised music. Since the turn of the century, she has been one of Denmark's leading jazz musicians, and she tours all over the world from New York to Hanoi. Director Christian Braad Thomsen has followed Lotte Anker with a camera team for the last 10 years and filmed her with some of the most significant musicians she has played with, including pianist Marilyn Crispell, guitarist Fred Frith, pianist Craig Taborn, trumpeter Herb Robertson and drummers Gerald Cleaver and Paul Lovens - as well as the German trombonist Johannes Baue. In between, Lotte Anker and the other musicians comment on their improvised music form, which is without theme or chord.
