Synopsis:
No spanish review yet:
Akvarel: A man tries to escape from his wife in order to visit an exhibition, where he sees a painting representing his own house. Sapovnela: An old man, in love with nature, makes magnificent flower arrangements. But tractors are gradually invading the flower fields. Aprili: A young happy couple moves from a poor district to a new housing estate. Their relationship gets progressively worse as their comfort and possessions increase. Tudzhi: Documentary of the Rustavi Metal Works, in the country of Georgia. Falling Leaves: A young idealist takes a job at a local state run winery only to discover and become disillusioned by the corruption of the Soviet State. Dzveli qartuli simgera: Under the premise of documenting for the sake of preservation the various forms of Georgian religious chanting, a distinct kind of sonorous psalmody passed over from generation to generation, what Otar Iosseliani captures in reality is the snapshot of a not-so-distant past that coexists with the world we might know yet transports us to what used to be. Once Upon a Time There Was a Singing Blackbird: A carefree young percussionist roams the streets of Tbilisi, interacting with friends and strangers alike, and tries to avoid responsibilities. Pastorale: Members of a music band spending summer in the countryside watch the petty dramas play out among the local folks and among themselves. Cinéma cinémas: A ten episode Tv series on cinephilia, in which contributors to both American and French films are interviewed. Letter from a Filmmaker. Seven Pieces on Black & White Cinema: Before Iosseliani started working on the 'Favourites Of The Moon' he tried to capture on film his first impressions of the city and the people who inhabit it. In this black-and white etude of Paris, the succession of sketches - an old man leaves his home without anyone paying attention and goes to sit on a bench in the street, a man and a woman meet in a cafe, two men exchange gunshots, etc. - are interspersed with rhythmic images and sounds of the city. Favourites of the Moon: A porcelain table service and a painting from the 19th century pass from hand to hand and deteriorate over time, sealing the fate of different characters who cross paths in an unusual Paris. A Little Monastery in Tuscany: The contrast between the daily lives of five french Augustinian monks in the monastery Castelnuovo dell'Abate and the life in the village of Montalcino. And Then There Was Light: The film depicts daily life in an Senegalian village. The people sleep, eat, make love, pray for rain, et cetera, while civilization, by way of timber trucks and tree fellers, is slowly encroaching. The Butterfly Hunt: A noble family of France maintains dignity despite the onslaught of modernism and non-white immigrants. Georgia, Alone: The dreadful warfare in Chechnya, a neighbor of Georgia, provides a unique poignancy into Otar Iosseliani's intriguing, four-hour, made-for-television documentary on Georgia. Brigands: King Vano rides bravely off into battle, but only after ensuring his passionate Queen is safely locked in her chastity belt. Farewell, Home Sweet Home: Nicolas, the eldest son of a wealthy family, works far from his home environment as a window washer and dishwasher in a bistro. He does not notice at all the baseness of his new relationships. Monday Morning: Vincent lives in a village. Every morning he goes to the factory to work, and in the evening he takes care of his family. One day, he decides to go on a trip with the money given by his father. Gardens in Autumn: When he loses his position as a powerful government minister, Vincent is dropped by his pretty mistress and must begin life anew, without the privileges of power. Chantrapas: Nicolas, a Georgian filmmaker who wants nothing more than to express himself. He leaves his country for France. Winter Song: A deadpan, picaresque buddy comedy about two old friends through a series of urban adventures they experience, loosely connected by the skull of an executed French aristocrat. Winter Song is a typically irreverent Iosselianian jaunt through a classy Paris apartment block contemplating the past, present, and future.
