Synopsis:

A finales de los años noventa, el fotógrafo y cineasta Bruce Weber consiguió convencer a Robert Mitchum para que apareciese ante su cámara. Cuando Mitchum falleció en 1997, Weber dejó aparcado este proyecto y no fue hasta mucho tiempo después que volvió a retomar el material filmado. Mitchum -que antes de cumplir los 15 ya había escapado de casa diez veces, ingresado en prisión y realizado trabajos forzados- actuó en más de 130 filmes, principalmente películas de guerra, cine negro y westerns, en las que siempre hacía de tipo duro. Pero Robert Mitchum también fue una persona muy leída, que escribía poesía, y un grandísimo artista. "Nice Girls Don't Stay for Breakfast" (título tomado de una canción de Julie London), no solo es el retrato de un chico malo con alma de poeta, sino también una película sobre cómo envejeció todo un símbolo de la masculininidad. A través de una serie de entrevistas con el propio Mitchum, así como con amigos y admiradores, números musicales y material de archivo, Weber muestra la batalla interminable de alguien que pasó su vida entera tratando de escapar de casa.
