Synopsis:
Along Came Auntie:
Short Kilts:
As a way to make peace between two feuding Scottish clans, one invites the other over for supper, but things don't turn out quite as expected.
Smithy:
The Soilers:
During the Alaska gold rush, a miner hits the mother lode, but a corrupt sheriff jumps his claim, leading to a tremendous fight.
White Wings:
Pursued by the law, a street cleaner finds refuge by impersonating a dentist.
Bromo and Juliet:
A young man puts on the play 'Romeo and Juliet' as a fundraiser, but has to keep a close eye on his dad, who's had several drinks too many, and a pesky cab driver who's determined to collect his fare.
Crazy Like a Fox:
Oliver Hardy -- who would soon join up with Stan Laurel to make a winning comic team - has a walk-on in this Charley Chase two-reeler. A father (William V. Mong) wants his daughter (Martha Sleeper) to marry the son (Chase) of an old friend. Since she has never met the young man, Martha decides to run away, and at the train depot, she meets Charley, who is on his way to meet the girl his father told him about. He doesn't realize Martha is his intended, and vice versa, and they fall in love. To get out of the arranged marriage, Charley decides to act crazy in front of the girl's parents. The uncomprehending father obligingly tries to match Charley's nutty behavior. Eventually Charley realizes that these are the parents of the girl he loves, and he becomes sane rather quickly. Originally, Hardy had a much larger part, in which he was shoved into a fountain a number of times, but all that landed on the cutting room floor.
Thundering Fleas:
Easily one of the fastest and funniest of the silent Our Gang comedies, Thundering Fleas is set in motion with a sidewalk performance of Professor Clements' Trained Flea and Insect Circus. When the Professor's star attraction, Garfield the flea (depicted via animation) escapes, Clements offers to pay the Our Gang kids a dollar if they can locate the wayward insect. Alas, all of the fleas manage to get away thanks to the gang's 'assistance,' and pretty soon the entire city is scratching and writhing. The limit comes when the kids - and the fleas - attend the fancy wedding reception of Mary Kornman's older sister. Comedy buffs will be amused by the presence of three major Hal Roach stars in minor roles: Oliver Hardy as a pants-less policeman, Charley Chase (hidden behind a huge walrus moustache) as a twitching wedding guest, and a moustache-less James Finlayson - of the raised eyebrow and the spectacular double take - as the justice of the peace. Originally released on July 18, 1926, Thundering Fleas is also available in a shortened, TV version retitled The Flea Circus.
