Synopsis:
In this unique mobster movie, Scott Baio heads up a prepubescent cast as the title character, a child gangster determined to rule over New York City. Instead of throwing fists or bullets, the Prohibition-era kiddie mobsters sling confections at one another. When Bugsy learns that a rival gang has developed a secret weapon capable of firing sweets as quick as a machine gun shoots bullets, he sets out to heist the high-tech tart-launcher.BUGSY MALONE, director Alan Parker's first feature, cleverly spoofs the rich, cliche-ridden history of films about organized crime while lightly mocking the childlike, selfish traits of grown-ups. The engaging silliness is periodically spirited forward by several song-and-dance numbers composed by bubblegum pop maestro Paul Williams.

New York, 1929. Fat Sam's gangster enterprises are under threat from his rival, Dandy Dan, whose new weapon, the splurge gun, has rendered Sam's custard pies obselete. Sam asks Bugsy Malone for help and Bugsy recruits an army of the down-and-out to help Sam. Meanwhile, Bugsy is romantically torn between the sweet, ambitious Blousey Brown and the seductive Tallulah. A huge splurge gun fight at the climax ends with a friendly song and dance session.

A pint-sized cast illuminates this musical that is unlike any other ever made. Set in 1929 New York City, Bugsy Malone captures a flashy world of would-be hoodlums, showgirls, and dreamers - all played by child actors! As Tallulah, the sassy girlfriend of the owner of Fat Sam's Grand Slam Speakeasy, future superstar Jodie Foster dances and sings her way into our hearts. Award-winning pop composer Paul Williams wrote the words and music for this thoroughly delightful movie.
