Synopsis:
Jesse is a professional chef, living with a long-time girlfriend, Hannah, to whom he has proposed marriage. When he receives a surprise telephone call from an ex-love, Anabeth, who confesses that she may still be in love with him, despite being on her way to get married, Jesse is taken aback - even more so when he discovers the next day that Anabeth has been killed in an accident. Hannah breaks off their engagement, and Jesse, finding himself alone at the age of forty, decides to track down all his old girlfriends, who are living in different areas of the United States. His final destination is the funeral of Anabeth, where he shows up to the surprise and dismay of everyone attending - particularly Anabeth's mother and fiancé.

Jesse is charming, romantic, and he knows how to pop the question; he just can't face marriage. So, when he and Hannah split up during the same week that a former fiancée dies, he decides to figure things out. He visits each woman about whom he's been serious to ask what went wrong. His teen flame, an independent woman who sometimes sleeps with him, and a group of lesbians give him advice, as does Anabeth, dead but lively in his dreams. One ex remains furious, but with the help of her inventive colleague, the level-headed insomniac Laura, Jesse even gets to talk to her. It's on to Anabeth's funeral, where he'll see Hannah, and maybe grasp what has been eluding him.

In this romantic comedy, a man gets an insider's perspective on his drawbacks as a boyfriend. Jesse (Tim Daly) has never had much luck sustaining a romance. When one of his former girlfriends dies, he asks his current flame (Olivia D'Abo) to marry him. After she turns him down, he decides to visit his former girlfriends to find out what he's doing wrong. Jesse's roster of former girlfriends includes Jami Gertz, Melora Hardin, Elizabeth Pena, and Mimi Rogers.
