Synopsis:
In 1932, the writer Paul Nizan published The New Watchdogs to denounce the philosophers and writers of his time who, sheltering behind intellectual neutrality, imposed themselves as true watchdogs of the established order. Today the watchdogs are journalists, editors, and media experts who've openly become market evangelists and guardians of the social order. In a sardonic manner, The New Watchdogs denounces this press that, claiming to be independent, objective and pluralist, makes out it is a democratic force of opposition. With forcefulness and precision, the film puts its finger on the increasing danger of information produced by the major industrial groups of the Paris Stock Exchange and perverted into merchandise.

In 1932, writer Paul Nizan published "The Watchdogs", a book denouncing the philosophers and writers of his era for imposing themselves as guardians of the establishment behind a pretense of intellectual neutrality. The new watchdogs of today are the journalists, editorial writers and media-friendly experts who openly crusade for free markets and the maintenance of social order. With sardonic humor, The New Watchdogs lambastes these pundits posing as independent, unbiased, pluralistic forces of democratic opposition. The film convincingly and accurately exposes the growing threat of news being manufactured and deformed into a commodity by big business.

Les Nouveaux chiens de garde, (The New Watchdogs in English) is a French documentary film created by Gilles Balbastre and Yannick Kergoat which discusses and criticizes the close relations between media owners/ journalists, politicians and businessmen in France. In the summary of the film it says that the media claims to be 'against-power' but the vast majority of newspapers, radio and television stations are owned by industrial or financial groups closely linked to power.
