Synopsis:
When a nine-year-old Arab refugee is left stranded in Stockholm following the death of her grandfather, a group of local street kids take her in and fight for her right to remain in Sweden. Left alone on the streets of Stockholm after her grandfather succumbs to a fatal heart attack, young Amina (Beylula Kidane Adgoy) quickly realizes that without a residence permit she could be deported at will by authorities. Thankfully for the frightened lass, friendly neighbor Mirre (Embla Hjulström) hatches a clever plan to keep her gal pal around by housing her with hard-rocking neighbor, Johan (Gustaf Skarsgård). Though at first reluctant to take responsibility for the young refugee, Johan soon develops a close bond with the girl as the neighborhood kids team up to expose a gang of thieves who are stashing stolen goods in a nearby basement. Later, when benevolent social worker Janet (Jennifer Brown) catches wind of Amina's plight, she joins the fight to ensure that she isn't deported while simultaneously falling for the scruffy-but-lovable Johan in the process.

A winning combination of hip-hop musical and serious social issues, Kidz in da Hood won all the awards in its native Sweden and has won critical acclaim around the world. The films tells the gripping and touching story of young Amina who has moved to Sweden from Africa with her grandfather. While waiting for her residence permit Amia's grandfather dies suddenly and she is forced to fend for herself. Amina discovers that she can count on some unlikely people for support when her neighbour Johan, a tattooed rocker (played by Gustaf Skarsgård, son of the great Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård) and all the neighbourhood kids band together to help Amina in her quest to stay in Sweden. Brimming with songs from rap to pop and rock to tango, Kidz in da hood also has an important message to deliver. It investigates the refugee experience and pays homage to alternative families all the while being an unforgettable and uplifting experience.

Kidz in da Hood is the gripping and warm story of Amina, who came to Sweden with her grandfather three years ago. Amina has not yet received her residency permit and when her grandfather dies everything seems to fall apart. She temporarily hides out with pierced and tattooed rocker Johan, who lives in a worn-down suburb. The wild girl Mirre lives on the same floor as Amina and together they begin fighting for Amina to stay in Sweden and live with Johan.
