Synopsis:
The film tells the story of problems in the lives of doctors and patients. A female doctor (Colbert) probes the twisted minds of her patients in a mental institution. The very caring psychiatrist and her colleague face discrimination by a conservative new supervisor.

The work of a progressive female psychiatrist and her colleague at a mental hospital is threatened by the arrival of a conservative new supervisor, who disapproves of both her methods and the fact that she is a woman in a 'man's field.'

The flow of life at a progressive psychiatric hospital is disturbed by the arrival of the conservative new superintendent and his sister. This unusual melodrama, one of the first Hollywood films to deal with mental illness, is one of La Cava's most visually arresting works.
