Chronicle of a Passion (1973)
After World War I, widower Renier has returned to his estate Horlebecq. His sole diversion is his correspondence with the Parisian Rolande, who he met during the war. Even though his family is pressuring him into marrying his sister-in-law Emily, Renier stays obsessed with Rolande and even visits her in Paris. She manages to persuade him to invest large sums of money into the "Academie de Beauté" in Paris. His reckless investments and breaking off his engagement with Emily leads to unbearable tensions at Horlebecq...
Hector (1987)
Hector had been in the orphanage for 35 years, until his aunt Ella and uncle Achiel pick him up. They want him to work at their bakery. At his new home he also helps training Achiel's son, Jos, who wants to be a cycling champion, and Ella with studying her role in a play.
Max (1994)
Max sells trophies, but is much more interested in dancing than in selling. He is under his father's thumb, and his daughter is much more interested in Kurt than in learning to play the flute. To add insult to injury, the Argentinean tango championships are drawing near and Max still hasn't found a partner. In walks dancer Annie Brocca, and a whole range of new perspectives opens itself.
Brussels by Night (1983)
This is the story of a man who travels to Brussels, and meets some people with whom he spends a few days. When they all go on a day trip to the 'slanting plane' of Ronquieres, all sorts of bottled up frustrations flare up.
Paradise Lost (1978)
The Mayor of a small Flemish town is determined at all costs to save a unique bird sanctuary from a ruthless businessman who advocates a housing development on the site. The main story, though, centers on a childhood trauma that unites the two men and a dark femme fatale whom one desires and the other attempts to manipulate- she is Mayor's cousin.
