"The Rats of Tobruk (1944)
The Fighting Rats of Tobruk is a 1944 Australian film directed by Charles Chauvel. The film follows three drover friends who enlist in the Australian Army together during World War II. Their story is based on the siege of the Libyan city of Tobruk in North Africa by Rommel's Afrika Korps.
The Overlanders (1946)
Inspired by a true tale, this film follows horseman Dan McAlpine (Chips Rafferty) as he guides a massive herd of cattle across the punishing terrain of northern Australia. At the outset of World War II, Dan is advised to kill the animals, lest they be used to feed Japanese troops. Instead, he and a diverse group of hired hands and volunteers take the cattle over mountains and across rivers, in an attempt to reach what they hope is safety on the furthest reaches of the country's east coast.
Eureka Stockade (1949)
In this biopic, Irish emigrant Peter Lalor (Chips Rafferty) travels in 1854 to Victoria, Australia, where he takes an immediate interest in the gold rush. Moved by the aspirations of the miners and disgusted by the indifferent government and callous law enforcement, he becomes a spokesman for the miners after making a fiery speech on their behalf. Lalor is elected to legally represent the reform movement, and his actions set the stage for a crucial moment in Australia's developing democracy.
The Australian Story (1952)
During early 20th century Australia a young broke man is trying to find money to allow him to return home. The young Richard Connor checks into a Sydney boarding house where he's mistaken for a drunk rancher's long-lost son. The same night Richard attempts to rob a stranger, John Gamble, but when he finds out that the stranger too is broke they decide together to rob a local gambling house. During the robbery the owner is shot and the robbers take off with the loot. Just by chance, they meet the drunk rancher again. The rancher insists the young Richard is his lost son. When Richard and his robber partner discover that the drunk rancher has an extensive property they decide to play along with the long-lost son scenario and claim the eventual inheritance. However, the rancher's daughter, Dell, becomes an unforeseen obstacle to their plans.

Smiley Greevins is a cheeky, mischievous, imaginative little boy who lives in the small town of Murrumbilla in the Australian outback. His father Bill is a poor drover who is often away from home. Much to the exasperation of his overworked wife, Ma Greevins, Bill is also very fond of the drink. Smiley is determined to buy himself a push bike and so he takes on odd jobs in an effort to save up enough money. But Smiley always seems to get caught up in some sort of misadventure. Smiley is a classic Australian film that will delight audiences of all ages.
