Synopsis:

Disgraced detective Tony fakes evidence in divorce cases, implicates wife in Stasio affair. Stasio and wife shot dead in hotel. Tony's ex-partner Frank investigates, suspects inheritance-seeking mistress Angeline and inconsistent Tony.

Brighton, England, 1959. Disgraced cop turned private detective Tony Aaron falsifies adulteries for use as evidence in divorce cases. He involves his wife as the fictional co-respondent for painter Carlo Stasio but the pair are shot dead in a hotel room. In charge of the case is Frank, Tony's ex-partner still on the Brighton force. His most likely suspects are Angeline, Stasio's mistress who is set to inherit his house and pictures, and Tony himself, parts of whose story don't seem to add up.

Film in the classic tradition of the film noir. A down-at-heel
former policeman turned private eye makes a living from divorce
work, setting up incriminating evidence with his wife as the other
woman. When one of his cases ends in the brutal murder of his
wife and his rich client, he becomes the prime suspect. (Synopsis)
