Synopsis:

In the 1950s, a seemingly sensible newlywed and her wayward brother-in-law undertake parallel journeys of risk, romance, and self-discovery.

Muriel and her husband Lee are about to begin a bright new life, which is upended by the arrival of Lee's brother. Muriel embarks on a secret life, gambling on racehorses and discovering a love she never thought possible.

Married couple Muriel and Lee's hopes of starting a new life after the Korean War are spoiled by the arrival of Lee's brother Julius. He teaches Muriel to play poker and they soon find themselves out of their depths gambling on racehorses and embarking on unexpected affairs.
