Synopsis:

Acclaimed filmmaker Jean-Jacques Beineix (Betty Blue Diva) takes a walk on the wild side and offers up a mysticaljourney of romance and the sublime destiny that is so often just out of reach. A struggling student Thiery (Gerard Sandoz) drops out of school in pursuit of an apprenticeship as a lion tamer and meets the alluring Roselyne (Isabelle Pasco Prospero's Books) who shares his newfound passion. When Thiery loses his job the young lovers embark on a classicaljourney of discovery across France picking up the occasional job at the odd circus along the way. Their amorous adventure leads them to Germany and the formidable talent of Klint (Gunter Meisner Is Paris Burning) who offers his expert tutelage and training as master of the big cats.

Isabelle Pasco and Gerard Sandoz play an impressionable young couple living in Marseilles. Both husband and wife are mesmerized by the lions in the city zoo, the wife in particular. The husband goes so far as to take a job at the zoo so as to be nearer the animals. Fired from his position, the husband takes the wife to another town, where they continue their vicarious love affair with lions in a circus. Roselyne et Les Lions is a typically out-of-mainstream effort by Jean-Jacques Beineix, the auteur of Diva and Betty Blue.
