Synopsis:
Set in Lapland, the first theatrical film by Matti Ijäs after a ten-year break is a drama about a woman who, in the director's words, is 'quick to fall in love and as abrupt to abandon you', and her three men. Lapland is a very dear setting and mindscape to director Ijäs, but it is the first time he has ventured this far north right next to the fells. Another view is the rugged mountain landscape of the Arctic Ocean coast in Norway where the characters end up to air out their stormy minds. The male protagonist is photographer Toivo who has moved north and given up taking pictures of people. His standard prop is a park bench that he hauls with him from one mountain to another, giving the viewer the opportunity to picture any person whomsoever sitting on it. As the film progresses, the bench becomes Toivo's confessional booth as well as his cross. Toivo steps into the trap, falling in love with Ansa the whirlwind, who is used to wrapping men around her finger. This launches a drama that reaches not only triangular but also quadrangular or even pentangular proportions, depending on the interpretation. Krista Kosonen as Ansa does her most fabulous role, which will remain in the history of Finnish cinema alongside the most memorable characters of all time.

Vaarala, a reserved romantic photographer, has an odd artistic vision of loneliness: he takes serial photos of an empty park bench in remote spaces of nature. When he meets and falls in love with the spirited, unruly Ansa his bench is suddenly filled. But in order to be with her he has to not only overcome his own frailties but the impending danger of Ansas volatile ex-con ex, and then Ansa herself, a woman prone to impulsiveness and impetuousness. Someone ends up dead , and in the mess of difficult and fractured small-town relationships, reaching far beyond Vaarala and Ansa, its not surprising. Its madness and mayhem and beauty and bliss: This is life, and these are the things we do for love.

A shy photographer falls in love. The woman is beautiful, but the timing is awful. Her jealous ex-con ex-husband has come to town, and she is in debt for her brother-in-law, who is loving her in secret. What follows is a genuine mess of all the things we do for love.
