Synopsis:
No french review yet:
One of the most accomplished and creative filmmakers in British cinema, Derek Jarman rose to prominence as an intensely creative force during the late 70s, 80s and early 90s. A maverick artist foremost, Jarman's attention to detail and unconventional approach to filmmaking has been matched by few others. Along with fellow classicist Peter Greenaway, Jarman's unique ability to blend music and imagery, exploring both the personal and the political is profoundly engaging. The Derek Jarman Collection represents the essence of Jarman's work as an influential auteur - showcasing five of his most beloved films: Sebastiane, Jubilee, The Tempest, War Requiem and The Last of England - taking the viewer on a grand odyssey - from a remote Roman outpost in 300 A.D in Sebastiane, across a punk-infused post-apocalyptic London wasteland in Jubilee, the depths of a Shakespearean tragedy in The Tempest, to the incomparable pairing of Benjamin Britten and Wilfred Owen for the devastation of War Requiem. Featuring the likes of Tilda Swinton, Toyah Willcox, Jordan, Adam Ant, Sean Bean and Sir Laurence Olivier in his final screen appearance, The Derek Jarman Collection captures the essence of the artist and represents a profound cinematic achievement.
